My Country Music Story

I can't remember exact date when I started to listen to country music but I can tell you that it was in 2014. That year I said to myself: " I'm sick and tired of today's popular music, it's time to find something new to listen to". I can't tell you how I found out about country genere but I can tell you my story.

Let's go back to late spring or early summer of 2014. The weather was beautiful, a sunny day with no clouds. I was going to mall with headphones in my ears and I was listening to soft melodies of country music. First country songs that I listened to were: "Rose Garden" by Lynn Anderson, "The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA" by Donna Fargo, "Woman (Sensuous Woman)" by Don Gibson and "9 999 999 Tears" by Dickey Lee. The latter song made me fall in love with country music. I remember that I tried to repeat out loud " 9 999 999 Tears" and I failed. I have to mention that at that moment my english wasn't great. Now you can wake me up in the middle of the night and I'll say it out loud with ease.

Later that day I searched internet for other country songs. I found site which looked like it was created in early 2000's and there was a list of country songs. I remember I wrote down like almost a hundred titles and later I was listening them on YouTube. Here's few songs: "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool" by Barbara Mandrell, "Po Folks" by Bill Anderson, "Blanket on the Ground" by Billie Jo Spears, "Queen of Memphis" by Confederate Railroad, "Tight Fittin' Jeans" by Conway Twitty, "Fourteen Carat Mind" by Gene Watson, "I Walk the Line" by Johnny Cash, "The Battle of New Orleans" by Johnny Horton, "El Paso" by Marty Robbins, "She Don't Know She's Beautiful" by Sammy Kershaw and "Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson.

Almost 5 years later I can call myself a huge country music fan. Right now I follow on Spotify 171 country music artist and so far I guess I've listened to at least 4000 songs so I think that makes me a country music fan. Oh and I don't listen country rap, sorry I meant crap. What happened to you Nashville, you used to be cool, and you still can be.

That's my story. What's yours? Tell me in comments.
